My passion for cooking started when I was a little girl and my sweetest childhood memories are often linked with food. When I think about Germany, the place where I was born, I remember the smell of freshly baked Bretzel and bread rolls. When I think about Sicily, my parent’s birthplace and where my family lives, I recall an entire universe made of grandparents, aunts and uncles always keeping busy with delicacies around a 30 seater dining table.
And it is no coincidence that many of my family work in the restaurant business.
My favourite toys were liliputian pots and pans in which I imagined to cook delicious food. When I was around 14 years old, I started to cook with real ingredients, inspired by a cookbook by Ugo Tognazzi.
I still remember my first dish: “Hamburger Bismarck”, a huge meatball with a fried egg on top of it.
The expression of wonder on my parent’s face made me realize how satisfying and powerful a tasty dish could be.
